MODIFIED
ASTRO

This variation, or modification, of the ASTRO convention is used to expedite the description of a Major Suit two-suiter after a strong 1 No Trump opening (15-18 high card points) to show a two-suited hand.

The bidding is as follows:

2 :

indicates a long Heart suit and perhaps a Minor suit

2 :

indicates Diamonds and a Minor suit

2 :

indicates Hearts and Spades

The responses to a Two Clubs or a Two Diamonds overcall are the same as they are for ASTRO.

If the overcaller has a one-suited Heart suit, he will bid Two Hearts.

If the overcaller bids Two Hearts, showing specifically both Major suits, the responses are practically the same as for Landy.

If the overcaller hits the jackpot with his Two Hearts overcall by his Partner, then the Partner simply passes with weakness, invites with a stronger hand in Hearts, and bids game with an exceptionally good hand with strength and distribution.

If you wish to include this feature, or any other feature, of the game of bridge in your partnership agreement, then please make certain that the concept is understood by both partners. Be aware whether or not the feature is alertable or not and whether an announcement should or must be made. Check with the governing body and/or the bridge district and/or the bridge unit prior to the game to establish the guidelines applied. Please include the particular feature on your convention card in order that your opponents are also aware of this feature during the bidding process, since this information must be made known to them according to the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge. We do not always include the procedure regarding Alerts and/or Announcements, since these regulations are changed and revised during time by the governing body. It is our intention only to present the information as concisely and as accurately as possible.
