ALAN FRASER TRUSCOTT

Mr. Alan Fraser Truscott of New York City, born April 16, l925, in England, and is a leading international player-writer who came to the United States in 1962. He has been Bridge Editor for the New York Times since 1964, and was President of the International Bridge Press Association between 1981 and 1986. He has also been a frequent Contributor to British Bridge World, ACBL Bulletin, and other magazines throughout the world. Mr. Alan Fraser Truscott also has been Executive Editor of all five editions of The Official Encyclopedia of Bridge.

After serving as secretary of the British Bridge League from 1957 to 1962, Mr. Alan Fraser Truscott worked as associate editor of the ACBL Bulletin between 1963-1964. He was European Champion in 1961 and represented Great Britain in the European Championships in 1951 and 1958. He represented Great Britain in the 1962 Bermuda Bowl, where he finished third. He has represented the United States in world competition in 1970, 1972, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, and 199O.

He invented the Truscott Card, now widely used to prevent seating errors in team play. He has authored several conventions, such as Defense To Strong Artificial Openings, Two No Trump Response or the Truscott Two No Trump Response, over the Takeout Double of an opponent, commonly known as the Jordan Two No Trump, and Two-Way Stayman. His contributions to theory include Restricted Choice. He has written several books and articles on the subject of bridge. We have attempted to compile a complete list.

Mr. Alan Fraser Truscott has written very many articles in publications and newspapers regarding the game of bridge and has also authored many books about the game. Following are but just a few of his accomplishments. He also worked together and supported many other bridge authors and supported them by writing the introduction to their works.

He was the co-translator of Championship Bridge (leDentu, Bridge a la une)

He was npc of the Bermuda team in the 1964 World Olympiad and or the Brazilian Team in the 1971 Bermuda Bowl. British successes include Masters Individual 1953 and 1958. His ACBL wins are Master Mixed Teams 1985, North American Swiss 1987, Mixed Pairs 1989. He has won many regional titles. He was President of the Greater New York Bridge Association from 1977 to 1979 and President of District 24 from 1980 to 1990. He has been President of the International Bridge Academy. He devised and organized the Battle of the Sexes.
